Events & Leagues

Events and leagues work the same way. The difference is time: an event runs and finishes, while a league plays out over a season.

Because they behave identically almost everywhere, learning one teaches you the other.

What they share

Nearly everything:

  • Created the same way, with the same options
  • Registered for the same way
  • The same tournament formats
  • The same privacy settings
  • The same skill and gender restrictions
  • The same organizer-set game rules applied to every match
  • The same bracket views

So anything you learn about events applies to leagues. There is no second system to learn.

What a league adds

Seasons. League play is organized into defined periods, with standings that accumulate across matches rather than resolving in a single sitting.

Persistence. An event runs and ends. A league keeps going — the same group, the same competition, over weeks or months.

Standings over time. Because matches accumulate within a season, a league produces a table rather than just a winner.

Which to choose

Event — a single competition with a defined end. A Saturday tournament, a one-off bracket, an afternoon of pickup with structure. Everyone shows up, it runs, someone wins, it's over.

League — recurring competitive play with the same people. Weekly matches across a season, standings that build, a table that means something in month three.

The practical test: do you want this to end today? If yes, event. If you want to be running it again next week with the same people and a table that carries over, league.

Source multiplier

League games carry the highest source multiplier in the app, above event games. Both sit above venue and quick games.

That reflects the commitment involved — a league match is scheduled play against people who signed up for a season. See Source Multipliers.

Seasons and standings

A season is a defined window of league play. Matches within it accumulate into standings — who's leading, who's played whom, who's left to play.

When a season ends, the standings settle and a new season can begin with the same league.
