Your First Game

From a new account to a scored, finished game with PaddleRank in your account. About five minutes, most of it setup.

Before you start

Get at least one other player onto Vallio and follow each other.

This isn't optional if you want the game to count. PaddleRank is only awarded when both teams have at least one registered player, and only mutuals appear in the list when you're picking teams. A game against guests will score fine and record fine — it just won't move anyone's rating.

Step 1 — Start a game

From the Home tab, start a new game. You'll land on setup.

If you're at a registered venue and want the court features, start from the court instead — see Playing a Venue Game. For your first time through, a quick game is simpler.

Step 2 — Pick singles or doubles

Singles is one player per side. Doubles is two.

This determines how many slots you fill next. See Singles & Doubles.

Step 3 — Build the teams

Add players to each side. You'll pick from your mutuals, or add a Guest for anyone not on Vallio.

Keep at least one registered player on each team. See Teams & Guests.

Step 4 — Set the rules

The important ones:

  • ›Play Style — Side Out (only the serving team scores) or Rally (a point on every rally)
  • ›Win Condition — Win By 1 or Win By 2
  • ›Target Score — anything from 1 to 30, default 11
  • ›Timeouts — 0 to 3 per team; 0 disables them

If you don't want to think about it, use a preset. There's one for singles and one for doubles, each with sensible defaults, and you can adjust anything afterward.

Step 5 — Coin toss

Tap Coin Toss to decide who serves first. Optional, but it settles the argument.

Step 6 — Play and score

Score each point as it happens. The app tracks the score, whose serve it is, and the rotation.

For a spectator-friendly view, open Big Board — a landscape layout readable from across the court.

Need a break? Timeouts are there if you allowed them.

Step 7 — Finish

When a team reaches the target under your win condition, the game ends. You'll get a summary of the result.

If both teams had a registered player, PaddleRank is awarded now — points from the game itself, a +10 win bonus for the winners, and any challenge points you triggered. All of it scaled by where you played and who you played.

Step 8 — Look at what it did

Head to the Player Hub on your Profile tab:

  • ›Dashboard — your updated PaddleRank and stats
  • ›Challenges — progress on daily, weekly, and monthly goals
  • ›Milestones — long-term counters that just moved
  • ›Achievements — any badge you earned
